Staff Spotlight

Our staff provide a loving environment for the children staying at Palmetto Place.  We would like you to know a little more about the  wonderful people who work hard taking care of the children every day. 

Matilda Johnson is in the Staff Spotlight for January.

  1.  How long have you worked at Palmetto Place? 4 years
  2. What is your favorite children's activity?  Dancing, board games, cards, arts & crafts
  3. What is your favorite children's book? The Hungry Caterpillar 
  4. If you were a superhero, which one would you be and why? I would just be "Matilda."  Superheros are make-believe.
  5. What is your most memorable moment at Palmetto Place?  Spending time with residents, Christmas 2009, dancing with residents in the morning while waiting on the bus and cab, back-to-school bash in 2007 and 2010, spring break 2010 cookout, and giving every child that needs it a hug and shoulder to cry on.


Erin Galloway, Executive Director

Erin has more than 13 years experience in non-profit management, communications and marketing. She comes to Palmetto Place from the March of Dimes, where she served as Executive Director for the Midlands Division. She also spent five years at the National Association for Campus Activities as the Director of Marketing and Communications. Prior to that, she was the State Communications Director for the March of Dimes in South Carolina. Erin teaches pilates at the Northwest Columbia YMCA and at Grace United Methodist Church.  

Tedrea Wilson, MA - Program Coordinator

Tedrea joined the Palmetto Place staff in 2008 and serves as the liaison between the Department of Social Services, the school systems, & other partner agencies in coordinating the intake process for children housed at Palmetto Place. She also coordinates the activities of the children placed in care and provides direct supervision to the child care specialists.

Barbara Wagers, CPA - Accountant

Barbara serves as the principal financial manager for Palmetto Place.



In addition to these administrative positions, the Shelter employs six full-time and 15 part-time child care specialists. These specialists are responsible for the daily physical and emotional caregiving of the child residents at Palmetto Place 24 hours a day.
